- How do I apply for cover with Global Expatriate Healthcare?

- Must I have a medical examination?
No medical examination is required. We simply ask you to complete the short medical questionnaire which is part of the application form. We do our utmost to keep any restrictions placed against past medical conditions to an absolute minimum. - How will pre-existing medical conditions affect my application for health insurance?
We appreciate that some medical conditions may have taken place some time ago and no longer require treatment. In such cases we try to be as flexible as possible in our underwriting and not automatically exclude past medical conditions. For this reason, it is important that you provide as much information as possible when applying for cover so that we can properly evaluate your application.
At Global Expatriate Healthcare, we define a pre-existing condition as being an illness, injury or related medical condition, which you or any of your dependants included in your application have experienced symptoms or received treatment, medication, advice or investigation for within the last ten years. - Who can apply for a Global Expatriate Healthcare plan?
Our plans are designed for expatriates their families and are annually renewable irrespective of age. The only restriction is that you must be aged sixty four or under when first applying.
- Are there definitely no age restrictions after sixty four?
No, provided you are aged sixty four or under when you undertake your first policy.
- In which countries can I have my treatment?
You can choose to have your treatment anywhere in the world; subject to the benefit limits of your chosen plan and the area of cover you have selected. Plan coverage depends upon the area in which you live; Global Expatriate Healthcare offers coverage in the following areas:- Area 1 – Worldwide excluding USA, Canada and the Caribbean
- Area 2 – All countries
If you have selected Area 1 and you decide to travel to the United States, Canada or the Caribbean for business or pleasure your policy will cover you for emergency treatment for trips of up to thirty or forty five days depending upon the option you have chosen. - Does Global Expatriate Healthcare limit the amount that can be claimed for hospital accommodation?
No, once the treatment has been pre-authorised, we will settle all customary charges for hospital accommodation, surgery and theatre fees etc. up to the specified limits of each plan.
- Are outpatient treatments and consultations covered?
If you have selected outpatient cover as part of your plan then consultations are covered up to the maximum of each specified benefit.
- What should I do if I require in-patient treatment?
You must contact us in advance for pre-authorisation in any of the following circumstances:- When you know that any treatment you require of any kind is likely to cost in excess of US$500 (including Inpatient, Day-care, Outpatient and Dental Treatment, as well as transportation and ancillary costs.
- When you know that you require admission to a hospital as an inpatient or for day-care
- When a doctor has recommended you for specialist treatment or for any kind of surgery
- If you require rehabilitation services
- If you wish to claim for Elective Medical Transfer
In case of an emergency, if you are physically prevented from contacting us immediately, you or someone designated by you must contact us as soon as you are able to do so. -
What happens if I become ill and medical facilities are limited?
In the event that local medical facilities are deemed by our physicians to be unable to cope with your condition, you or your treating physician need to contact our 24 Hour Emergency Assistance Centre immediately. We will make the necessary arrangements for you to be transported or evacuated to the nearest facility where you can be treated. - What should I do if I change my contact details?

- When can I change the details of my policy?
Changes to your benefit level can only be made at renewal and you will need to inform us within 30 days of your renewal date. Any waiting periods will still have to be served. - Will Global Expatriate Healthcare ever refuse to renew a policy on medical grounds
As long as the information contained in your application form was accurate, your premiums continue to be paid on time and you remain an expatriate, cover will remain in force. - What happens if I don't pay my premiums on time?
It is important that your premiums are paid on time to ensure you have no interruption to your cover and that your cover remains in place and claims are honoured. - What happens when my policy is due for renewal?
Your policy will renew automatically, however, we will contact you prior to renewal date to inform you of the premium for the forthcoming year. We will also inform you of any changes to your policy or changes to the Global Expatriate Healthcare plan. - What is a chronic condition?
A chronic condition is an illness or injury which has one or more of the following characteristics:- Has no known recognised cure
- Continues indefinitely
- Recurs or is likely to recur
- Is permanent
- Requires palliative treatment
- Requires monitoring, consultations, check-ups, examinations or tests
- Requires rehabilitation or special training to cope with
- What does elective medical transfer mean?
It means that you can elect to receive major intervention treatment in the country of your choice within the geographical area that your policy covers. This is subject to our physician’s agreement and advice.
